Biology inspires Neri Oxman. Working at the interface of environmental design, science, and art, Oxman is inventing novel ways to design, fabricate, assemble, and maintain building “skins” so they can respond to load, light, and heat simultaneously. Think buildings that breathe, sweat, and grow. “I believe that, within two decades, buildings will be designed and constructed as biological tissues,” says Oxman.

Neri Oxman is an architect and researcher currently based at MIT where she is a Presidential Fellow working towards her PhD in Design and Computation. Her work has recently been displayed at MoMA, now part of its collection. She has won multiple awards including the Earth Award for Future Crucial Design, HOLCIM Next Generation Award for Sustainable Construction, a Graham Foundation Carter Manny Award, the AICF Award of Excellence, and others. Neri is perhaps one of the most intelligent and charming persons i have met, and luckily, one of my top teachers when i was studying Architecture.
